Is His & Hers worth watching?

Mostly yes. His & Hers is a slick, addictive murder thriller that gets most of its power from the live-wire standoff between Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, and at six episodes it is ideal one-weekend television. The dual-perspective structure keeps you guessing about both narrators, and the small-town Georgia setting gives the mystery a nicely claustrophobic feel. The reservation is plausibility: the plot piles twist upon twist until it strains belief, and viewers who want a grounded crime drama will find it preposterous.

It is a clever way to make a murder mystery about a marriage, and the early episodes use it well, planting doubts about both leads without tipping too far either way.

The Dahlonega setting helps. The town is small enough that everyone has history with everyone else, and the show uses that closeness to create a sense that the past is waiting around every corner. The cinematography gives the mountains and quiet streets a moody, slightly gothic polish.

Thompson and Bernthal make it crackle

Tessa Thompson is excellent as Anna, a woman whose composure is both professional armour and a possible mask. She plays the character’s ambition and fragility with enough ambiguity that the audience never feels entirely safe trusting her. Jon Bernthal brings his familiar intensity to Jack, but also a wounded, rumpled warmth that makes the detective more than a hardman. Their scenes together are the show’s highlight, full of old resentments and unfinished feeling, and they make the marriage feel real even as the plot becomes outlandish.

Where the twists take over

The series is less careful with credibility. As the investigation widens, the plot relies on coincidence, withheld information and sudden revelations, and the final stretch of episodes stacks surprises so quickly that some land as absurd rather than shocking. The supporting characters are often functional, existing to shift suspicion rather than to feel like people, which wastes a capable cast. Critics were cooler on it than audiences for good reason: this is a potboiler, and it rarely pretends otherwise.

Who should watch His & Hers?

It suits fans of airport-novel psychological thrillers, readers of Alice Feeney, and anyone looking for a compact, bingeable mystery. Six episodes make it an easy one- or two-sitting watch. It carries mature ratings: expect violent crime, disturbing imagery, strong language and sexual content, along with themes of grief and past cruelty.
