I expected kaiju spectacle and got a postwar grief drama that happens to include Godzilla. The practical-feeling destruction and the kamikaze-adjacent moral knot wrecked me more than the creature itself. If you only know Hollywood Monsterverse entries, this is a different assignment — shorter on quips, heavier on consequence.
