Welcome to the Jungle (2026) Review: Ensemble Chemistry in a Movie That Cannot Choose a Genre
★★½☆☆ 2.5/5
Skip unless you are finishing the Welcome trilogy out of loyalty. The cast sparks; the plot never decides whether it is satire, heist, or slapstick.
Is Welcome to the Jungle worth watching?
Mostly no — Welcome to the Jungle holds a low-40s Celluloid Editorial Rating and a Not Recommended Celluloid composite. Franchise loyalists will find flashes of the old Welcome chaos in the Kumar–Shetty–Rawal triangulation. That is not the same as a film that works for 164 minutes.
The pitch vs the runtime
On paper the hook is clean: a washed-up actor and a ragtag crew are hired to shoot a fake blockbuster in the jungle as cover for a moneyed backer’s shadier plans; the fake production collides with real danger. Ahmed Khan directs it as if every subplot won an argument in the edit. Action beats interrupt comedy beats that interrupt romance beats. Disha Patani is deployed as star wattage more than character. By the time the accidental filmmakers must become the heroes they were pretending to play, exhaustion has replaced escalation.
What still works
Ensemble muscle memory. Akshay Kumar’s deadpan, Suniel Shetty’s blunt-force sincerity, and Paresh Rawal’s timing still generate isolated laughs — the same chemistry that made earlier Welcome entries meme-proof even when plots wobbled. A handful of set pieces remember to be playful rather than loud. Those moments are why some Audience Snapshot outrun the critics; they are also why the disappointment stings. You can see the better, shorter film trapped inside the release cut.
2026 Hindi context (be honest)
Alongside Cocktail 2, this is one of only two scored Hindi 2026 theatricals in Celluloid’s catalog so far — and both sit below the Recommended threshold. My desk’s job is not to inflate a thin year; it is to route readers toward films that still deliver. For mass entertainment that cleared our authenticity-weighted bar, start with Jawan vs Pathaan at /compare/jawan-2023/vs/pathaan-2023/. For the 2026 Hindi head-to-head (low bar, clear expectations): /compare/cocktail-2/vs/welcome-to-the-jungle-2026/. Full year map including Indonesia, Nigeria, Mexico, Germany, and the US: /best/2026/.
Should you skip Welcome to the Jungle?
Yes, unless the Welcome brand is the reason you bought the ticket. At 164 minutes, opportunity cost is part of the review. If you want 2026 cinema that Celluloid actually recommends, jump to The Odyssey, Obsession, or Kaiser Khan’s world-cinema picks on the Best of 2026 hub.
