Pathaan (2023) Review: Spy-Universe Gloss Over Substance

Is Pathaan worth watching?

Yes as a theatrical sugar rush; cautiously as a lasting spy film — Celluloid lands it Recommended after authenticity weighting. Celluloid editorial rating (79) is kinder than Metascore (47) and Letterboxd (3.1/5); audience/IMDb heat is down-weighted so the composite does not confuse opening-weekend euphoria with durable quality.

Siddharth Anand’s film runs 146 minutes in Hindi inside the YRF Spy Universe. On Celluloid it sits beside Action and Thriller titles from India that dominate “where to watch Pathaan” and “Pathaan vs Jawan” queries.

Comeback as product design

Pathaan is engineered for re-entry: ice-bath abs, Besharam Rang controversy-as-marketing, and a plot that exists to string set pieces between Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. Shah Rukh Khan plays charm as kinetic energy — a star rediscovering the pleasure of being looked at. As franchise plumbing, it works. As geopolitics, it is wallpaper.
